[film] The Avengers
Took maegwynn to see The Avengers Friday afternoon. When a movie is nearly 2 1/2 hours and you don't feel an urge to check your watch at any point during, that's a good sign. Some really nice work overall and one of the best of the current run of superheroes films. Strongly recommended.

While most of the cast does a great job I wanted to mention my opinion of especially good work from Tom Hiddleston as Loki and Tom Ruffalo as Bruce Banner. Nice touch bringing Lou Ferrigno in as voice actor for the Hulk, and Ruffalo actually getting to play the Hulk using motion-capture tech. Lots more Nick Fury than the previous films.

Whedon has a number of things he likes putting into a movie and several of those are in here. I didn't find them terribly annoying and I was looking for them.

Comments are welcome to include spoilers so read with caution.

Hint: there is a post-closing credits final scene to stay for, especially if you're a Marvel comics reader.

trailers:

* Spider-Man - The new origin movie. Has a really big version of The Lizard. 3 July.

* Prometheus - 8 June.

* Dark Knight Rises - 20 July.

* Brave - 22 June.

Which things are the things you were looking for in a Whedon movie? Just curious.

I thought Loki and the Hulk were both deeply fabulous, too. Particular Loki. It's so nice to see evil that isn't *whiny.*

Loki and the Hulk were probably my two favorite parts of the film. You're right about the not-whiny part. And the two characters have one of my single favorite scenes in the entire film, not to mention an earlier bit where Banner describes Loki's sanity as "His mind is a bag of cats!" Some serious Heath Ledger Joker echoes in the story, if not Hiddleston's delivery in specific.

I'll also add I didn't hate Scarlett Johansson as I was afraid I would. Hiddleston's apparently going to be in several Shakespeare movies (Henry IV Parts I and II, Henry V).

I want to look up Jeremy Renner and Mark Ruffalo's past work now, for different reasons. Any recommendations for movies to check out?

Ruffalo: I have not seen The Kids Are All Right, but was told by several it was excellent and I should fix that sometime. I liked him in Shutter Island.

Renner: don't really recommend The Town. Strongly, strongly recommend The Hurt Locker. Liked him in Mission Impossible 4 and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.
