documentary film screening and panel discussion on design/build architecture,
ETC Auditorium (at the Corner of Maryland Ave. and Club Blvd.), NC School of Science and Math, Durham, 7pm
Free and Open to the Public

Citizen Architect documents the work of the Rural Studio at Auburn
University. Founded by Samuel Mockbee in 1993, the Rural Studio
engages architecture students to design and build structures for the
residents of impoverished Hale County, AL. Using hay bales, old
tires, donated carpet tiles and other unorthodox materials, the studio
has produced award-winning houses and community buildings. Their work
is the subject of the book, An Architecture of Decency, and has been
featured in the NY Times, Washington Post, and Dwell magazine.
The film will be followed by a panel discussion on design/build
architecture.
