To blood, prana, and overdressing
She got a short nap then we got ready and headed to the meet&greet for the festival at Pirate's Alley. Pirates' Alley serves a drink they call absinthe, which is actually Pernod with the sugar cube/spoon/flame modern Czech ritual. Fancy, but doesn't make it taste much better - Pernod is still too anise-flavored and like drinking licorice.
Meet&greet was generally great: saw a lot of friends & aquaintances from last year. The title here was a toast from the evening. Took new acquaintances V. & J. to Lucky Cheng's, which we'd loved eating at last year- in short the place is Asian-Creole fusion cuisine, with the added hook all the waitstaff are drag queens (yes, there's a sister restaurant in NYC, why do you ask?). The lounge area was great, the company and conversation was great, but the dinner was difficult. Some disaster in the kitchen caused meals to be held up a bit over two hours so we had to skip dessert. Aggh. Their signature dessert is huge and we didn't order it last year because it was just the two of us. She was feeling a bit worse so we went back to the hotel instead of going to the Shim Sham for the live show (Genitorturers, Carla [as in Anton] LaVey, and others) or the Crow Bar (DJ Jack Dean from LA, where I actually wanted to go).

Saturday: chilly, low-key, full back ink, toy dogs, French food
Up late, went to the Quarter & ate at Angeli on Decatur. Very good, but sloow. Cold: we weren't expecting it to be below 60 degrees at 11am here. Went across the street to Rings of Desire and ordered a poster of Angel's full-back tattoo signed by her to Merrie as a memento of our anniversary, and also because we think it'll go well with the oil painting The Redemption of Lord & Lady Colfax we got last year. Angel walked us around to her shop Chi-wa-wa-ga-ga which specializes in toy dogs' accessories. Cute, but a ton of stuff. Most of it was way too cutesy for me to stand, but toy dog owners seem to love this kind of thing. Did almost pick up a voodoo rawhide chew toy ("name it, blame it, give it to your dog") for our dog - Winnie's not a toy size, but the chew toys came in sizes up to great dane-sized at about 18". Came back, got ready and headed to the bazaar for the festival in the hotel. Picked up the film Sex, Death, and Eyeliner, a documentary on the goth scene filmed a couple of years ago - I'll make more comments on it after I have time to watch it, or maybe I'll have a screening night here sometime if anyone's interested and we can all make comments. The soundtrack is pretty good: Everything from Summer Bowman's The Machine in the Garden to Godhead. Since things were slow I was able to catch Batty of Azreal's Accomplice and chat for a bit. Unfortunately she had sold all her mens clothing at Convergence and hadn't had time to make more. Pity.
She left shortly after we got there so she could nap, still feeling badly. After nearly ten hours sleep she feels like she hadn't slept at all. I stopped in about three hours later and she was still asleep, so I headed back to the bazaar and worked on my notes.
After another four hours sleep she felt much better. Went to Maison Bleu, near the hotel, for dinner. Good French country food. Great duck. Incredible creme brulee. Took a friend from the weekend, had a nice chat. Time to get ready for the ball now.
