This is such a fun film: a completely over-the-top rock opera musical that came out the year before Rocky Horror Picture Show, Phantom of the Paradise makes the Who's Tommy look subtle. Faust, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, more Faust, and Frankenstein all mixed together.
Details on the massive surrounding synthesizer in the film poster.
Picked up the commemorative print for the screening, of Phantasm:
In conversation, I hadn't realized how many sequels that Phantasm has had over the years. Apparently there's more in Coscarelli's mind fleshing out the story, but at this point it's unlikely they'll ever be filmed.
Decent crowd. Now to go work on notes for the rewrite of Phantom that may get me thrown out of the room, if I pick the right room. But first, brunch!
