hunting the elusive kraken
After I tracked down a way to get a message to someone at the parent company after their dysfunctional website failed on me last week, I received a reply this morning:
Unfortunately Kraken is only being sold in a few select states at the moment: CA,VA, PA, MI & OH. The rest of the states will begin offering Kraken after January 2010. If you'd like you can check back with us at that time to see where in your state it is available! Thank you for your interest!
No mention of the rest of my email letting them know the store locator page is a 404 link and the product dropdown doesn't include the new item. Based on their reply, this is probably a soft launch and they "meant to do that".
OTOH VA is a short drive...

If you can actually find out where in VA they're selling it, I'd be willing to pop in and grab a bottle for you (and one for me :D) on the way down for Turkey Day, assuming our trip time coincides with a near-I-95 location's hours of operation.

This is more a "find an excuse for a one-day roadtrip (maybe with a local friend out and back, or not) while I have a highly *ahem* flexible schedule" than "must have it" - it's a journey not a destination thing. Don't worry about it, the "having it on the shelf" part isn't really a high priority for me :). Thanks though: the offer is a nice thought.
I will be up in the area the weekend before Thanksgiving. Supplies will be procured. They don't know me by name at that store, but we're well on the way.

If it's no trouble (I didn't want to inconvenience kickaha trying to aim for Virginia during business hours, and I can't guarantee any given VA ABC store will carry it), and you see a bottle of Kraken on the shelf and I have not posted about acquiring one prior to that weekend, please get me one and I'll reimburse you. Given that I'm not a heavy drinker and I don't drink rum in general when I do, I'm actually wanting it for the product design. (Honestly this whole conversation started as a "failure in web design" post, hence the tag.)
Just don't bring the harpoon into the store. They won't understand.
