Subscape Annex on Two Continents Today

Nikolai Tesla once, it is said, showed a visitor to his New York laboratory a small device he held with one hand that thumped in a precisely-determined rhythm at, set at a targeted vibrational frequency, could shake the building down. Accordingly I have devised a plan to set my music going at carefully-selected locations on the Earth's surface to shake the crust apa...what's that? Sydney and Chapel Hill are not antipodes of each other? Drat. NEXT PLAN! (And it would have worked, too. The calculations were correct.) Ahem. As I was saying (Memo: use Antipodes Locator next time.) AS I WAS SAYING...shows.

Locally I am playing with several others as part of the Permeable Layer improv jam at Local 506 in Chapel Hill on Wednesday night, 3 September, at 8pm. No cover charge.

Then, almost (BUT NOT QUITE) antipodally from Chapel Hill....

As a continuation of the Sound of Failure sound art festival in Australia, the Sound of Re-use sound art group show opens on September 3 at Reverse Garbage, a not-for-profit cooperative for creative re-use that has been operating since 1974.

(Local note: the Scrap Exchange in Durham is a Triangle-based project of similar aims that I highly recommend. http://www.scrapexchange.org/ )

See http://soundoffailure.com/ for more information about the show, and

I recorded four pieces for the Sound of Re-use festival using resonant objects made from eggshells and contact microphones:

Shard I: Monks of Dagon (12min20sec)

Shard IV: Garuda Wakes (11min48sec)

Shards II and III are more in the area of harsher noise, and I chose to not make them part of my set for the festival.

Shard II: Steam Time (20min05sec)

Shard III: Steam End of Time (10min30sec)

I totally give you permission to shake Sydney down. The city spits on me every time I visit.

I have friends who like the Opera House. Leaving one structure standing is trick(ier).
