Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog

(metafilter from a few weeks back:

In case you've missed the advance promos, Joss Whedon wrote a 3-part (ten minutes each) musical superhero show called "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog" being distributed over the Internet this week - then it's being yanked off and gone on July 20 with potential plans for television or DVD sales following. The Net availability of episode 1 started Tuesday, but I didn't mention it then because the site was crashing under server overload and you couldn't have gotten to it then anyway. But I digress. (Episode 2 goes live tonight at midnight, at which point the server will probably despite heroic (did you see what I did there?) efforts fall over again, so try again tomorrow. Later.)

In short, Neil Patrick Harris [1] stars as a nerdy nascent supervillain who lives in the basement, can't work up the nerve to talk to this girl he likes, and routinely gets beaten up by his nemesis Captain TightpantsHammer played by Nathan Fillion of Firefly/Serenity/The Waitress [2]. Dr. Horrible also takes lessons from a voice coach to improve his evil laugh. (Hmm, that is actually not unreasonable: do you know how hard it is to do a proper MU-HA-HA-HA? [3])

[1] Doogie Howser, Master of Ceremonies [4].
[2] We will not speak of _Drive_ [5].
[3] Umm, drat, dictation and voice command software is catching subvocalizations today. Must have the contact mic sensitivity turned up too high from the eggshells project. Good thing this entry doesn't go to the Internet until I say POST...drat again)
[4] Damn, now I am humming "Wilkommen" again.
[5] *crickets*
[6] See? We do not need to not speak of _Drive_. It is already forgotten.

(1) also mimicking a few of Nathan Fillon's mannerisms - quite amusing
(2) I suppose we don't speak of One Life to Live either

1) Yes, I noticed too. My thought was "The slash - it writes ITSELF!"

Also, I knew Harris could sing. I assumed that Fillion, given his career and looks, had developed at least a passable singing voice, but I didn't recall him ever using it. But then I am not that familiar with his career (a) (b) (c).

2) Soaps are an art form and a genre all into their own, and have different standards. Yes, I am aware that I just analogized from that damning remark "Oh, that book? It's good for a Star Trek novel" to OLTL (d).

(a) For all I know he played a gigolo on OLTL.
(b) Numbered footnotes in posts, lettered footnotes in comments.
(c) I never watched OLTL. General Hospital, for about a year and a half for research (really - I was taking notes), sometime in the 80s (Luke, Laura, Dr. whatever's weather control machine and the ice storm - wow, I managed to luck into a soap with an actual mad scientist).
(d) I now want to write an Internet soap opera OLOL(cats).
